INFILTRATOR ROLES

TRAVELER NAME: Toshizou Hijikata
'ROLE': The Unintentional Escort
INITIAL DESCRIPTION:
    partner to the smuggler (and also a smuggler themselves), they are cold and hardened by the decay of civilization the past twenty years. Well aware of what things once were, they are first and foremost a survivor. Although they have a tender caring side, no one that currently knows them past a surviving relative can say they've seen it. They look out for their partner and they get along reasonably well. Due to their partner's forward decision making, they are being dragged along on a job to escort a stranger from the hands of one section of a group to another. They let their partner call the shots more often than not, although this current job they're being brought on is clearly not something they want to be a part of. However, with the choice being letting their partner see the mission out alone or going along, they are going along.

    Their only surviving family is a younger sibling they are estranged to and had were a parent before the outbreak occurred. There is a hard measure of guilt underneath their hard and callous exterior and a desire to find something worth fighting for.

PURPOSE: When the outbreak occurred twenty-years ago, the Escort was living in Austin, Texas, with his younger brother and son/daughter. Staying behind, his younger brother gave them a chance to escape out of the city. However, although they managed to escape the infection, he and his son/daughter were confronted by a foot soldier of the government as they responded to the disaster. Despite insisting neither of them were a danger or infected, the soldier was ordered by his superior to dispose of them due to the 'potential' of becoming a thread later.

While the Escort survived, his child did not, having been fatally shot despite him trying to protect them.

20 years later, he's doing what he can to live his life and get by. Once a kinder and more open individual, he's rather cold and shut off with very little hints of the former person he once was before everything went to hell.
NOTES: This character is meant to portray a very difficult situation but despite the concept of 'losing everything', he still works to survive. His character role is based off of Joel, but you are by no means required to have anything similar to him beyond what is mentioned here.
ALREADY ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS:
    The Immune; most importantly, the relationship here is meant to be rocky because Hijikata has hit the point in his life where he doesn't feel capable of protecting anyone who can't protect themselves after losing his kid and younger brother. However, he and the Immune role are meant to form an unexpected bond with each other, in the sense that the Immune gives him almost a second chance to succeed where he failed 20 years prior.
    The Disenchanted: While his younger brother didn't die, they eventually had a falling out due to the older's obsessive need to protect the other from suffering the same fate as his child did. It put an awful strain on their relationship and his brother has since left Boston and while he is vaguely aware of the other's whereabouts, has no thoughts he'll ever see him again. Considering their parting words were poor, with his younger brother telling him he didn't want to ever see his face again, he seems unable to find the motivation to reach out to the only family he has left and reconcile.

    Their relationship is salvageable, but they are of the same blood and thus share the less than stellar traits that make it hard for them to communicate. Like his older brother, the Disenchanted shares in the guilt over the death of his niece.

WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER TO THE INVESTIGATION: This role is supposed to be the 'compass' in terms of where the investigators should be going and what they will be doing in order to get closer to the Jaunt. He is well versed in survival and has years of hardship under his belt. He tries not to get close to people, but isn't a bad person. He's also acquainted with just about all of the other roles, whether in passing or knowing them a little more (which is up to the players).
Anything Else? His death will almost guarantee a jaunt reset, so it's in the best interests of the Investigators to protect him, which may prove difficult as per the type of person he is. I'm encouraging you guys to think of your own ways to push characters to want to assist him if they can! Although he can die without the jaunt being reset, it's unlikely the Immune role will survive.





TRAVELER NAME: Neeshka
'ROLE': The Underworld Smuggler
INITIAL DESCRIPTION:
    An individual that is part of the Boston Quarantine Zone that has chosen to look out for themselves rather than to engage in the politics of sides between the government and the Firefly rebels. They find the military oppressive and the fireflies causing more trouble than doing good. Smuggling is their M.O. and they'll do whatever it is that is worth the money. They have great influence in the Underground Black Market, notorious and respected (feared?) by others. Avoids confrontation with the military at all costs. Considered rough and ruthless, they aren't a follower and hold their head high, but their partner is no doubt become a daily part of their lives. Resourceful, independent, and often calls the shots for themselves and their partner.

NOTES/PURPOSE: She's meant to be a foil to the Escort. Although intitally harsh and seeming to be colder and more disconnected from mercy than her partner, her relationship with the Immune is supposed to show another side of her, where it's shown she is more ideal and does possess maternal nature of wanting to protect those she is close to despite her rough exterior. She is based on Tess.
ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS:
    The Unintentional Escort: They are partners and they live together, dealing with the ins and outs. Their personal details are up to the players, but the bottom line is they are important to one another as they are the only thing each other has. Neither will take well to the other dying and each other are always their first priority (at least, until they are instructed to take care of the Immune).

    She also knows everyone, probably better than the Escort. You're welcome to work out how and why and background with the others. C:

ANYTHING ELSE?: She is actually the one who is responsible for the Immune ending up in their custody and she has insisted on them taking the job to see it through no matter what. As far as her death, she can die or she can be saved depending on the actions taken by the infiltrators and the investigators. Tess becomes infected while they are escorting Ellie and decides to stall the soldiers so Joel and Ellie can escape, but how she may die or etc is up to the player. The only request I have is that you put her in some situation where her fate is decided by the investigators! Her death won't reset the jaunt, but her survival will make the Escort less hostile to the investigators.

Also, she is the one who the investigators should learn to go to if they need anything such as weapons or further information, so extra bonus points if she lives.




TRAVELER NAME: Inigo
'ROLE': The Immune
INITIAL DESCRIPTION:
    A victim of an Infected Attack, they have survived past the two day period of infection without it worsening and taking over its host. They wear heavy layers of clothing to avoid their wound being seen. Considering they are infected with the Cordyceps infection, they test positive on military scanners which makes them getting caught on the outskirts of the Quarantine Zone extremely dangerous.

    They are capable of surviving but have never known life beyond the walls of the Quarantine Zone and what living was like before the outbreak.

NOTES/PURPOSE: THE HOPE FOR MANKIND... sort of. Whatever part of mankind is really worth saving these days, anyway. While thie role is based on Ellie and is meant to develop a strong relationship with the Escort, it's almost a role meant to try and make the investigators care about the outcome of this mission even if they are not personally invested in it. The more friends this role can make with the others, the better!

It's important to note that they have never seen the outside world (nature, etc.) or what life is like outside of the martial law and being in a quarantine zone.
ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS:
    THE ESCORT; you can read the escort's relationship area for more, but this is basically the mentor/father figure to look up to, someone they never had as they are an orphan.
    THE SMUGGLER; considers them a friend, especially as they get to know each other as if what an older sibling might have been like.
    THE CATALYST; these two are best friends!!

ANYTHING ELSE?: If the Immune dies, the jaunt automatically resets. It's absolutely imperative to the success that they get to where they are being taken ( which is to the Fireflies who have gathered scientists and researchers together to find a cure! ). They can be bitten and survive the attack since they are immune, but since the zombies are aggressive, they stand a good chance of getting ripped apart (aka don't do anything self-sacrificing to try and save people thinking immunity will help o7).


TRAVELER NAME: Anders
'ROLE': The Revolution
INITIAL DESCRIPTION:
    a firm believer in their cause as the Firefly leader, they are powerfully capable but also able to display a nurturing side to those they take concern for. May or may not have had their visions warped over the years while firmly justifying everything to further thief pure and just cause (a cure and resisting the police state tyranny).

NOTES/PURPOSE: The leader of the Fireflies! This role is based off of Marlene, although the details will be largely left up to the player for the specifics. Their goal, as stated, is more important to them than anything and they are convinced humanity's fate is more important than anyone or anything, including their own or anyone else they care about's lives, if it comes down to that.
ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS: They know both the Smuggler and the Escort, although they and the Escort are a little tense around one another due to the fact the Escort's younger brother left both of them behind once he realized that things weren't what they seemed in terms of making the world right again. The Escort blames the Revolution for leading his younger brother astray but the Revolution only sees the turmoil that was between the two brothers and despite being abandoned by the younger, believe in him as a good person and someone worthwhile. As far as the younger brother, before he left, he told the revolution that should they ever need assistance, the Escort would make sure to come to their aid and that there was no one better for a job where someone needs help. It's the only hint left behind that suggests the younger brother doesn't feel completely distaste for his older brother.

THE LAW: so these two used to work together and had the same ideals, but eventually bad things happened (your choices...) and they split ways. Now, as they both were what could have been considered an unstoppable team together, have climbed their ways through the ranks and lead their respective causes. Whether they hate each other, still hope to get the other to see their side of things, or etc. is up to you.

They also know THE CATALYST (basically they KNOW EVERYONE TOO...) and are very good towards them, acting like a mentor/teacher and attempting to teach them to think for themselves and make their own decisions on the way the world around them works ( which means, despite hoping to keep them on the track of a firefly, they want to have them make the choice on their own and decide these beliefs are right in their own time ). There is also some obligation to the single caring parent of the Immune, having made a promise (they were very close, how close is up to you) to watch out for them. Originally, the Immune came to them, but things got out of hand and it became necessary to get someone else to escort them to the fireflies outside of Boston (which is how the Smuggler and the Unintentional Escort become involved).
ANYTHING ELSE?: They can't potentially die until later in the jaunt so make sure to be creative in keeping them around. They are super resourceful and not at all a pushover. They are determined to take care of those that follow them and keep them as safe as possible while furthering their goal (but again, the good of mankind is above all of them and is often reminded to any and all fireflies).



TRAVELER NAME: Cecil
'ROLE': the Law
INITIAL DESCRIPTION:
    a general that remembers a world before the infection. However, after watching humanity descend into chaos they believe the only way to protect people is through intimidation and oppression. While they are firm and well aware the military tactics are harsh on the people they are responsible for, they believe it's the only way to keep order and preserve what is left of humanity without them tearing each other apart in the chaos of panic and fear. Currently, they are at odds with their leaders concerning the rations being held up and delayed in being delivered to Boston. They care about the people, although may or may not be a little misguided.

NOTES/PURPOSE: They are, of course, meant to be the other side of the coin because while the government is always seen to be the bad guys in these sorts of things, that isn't always the case. Everything's relative and everything is grey rather than black and white when circumstances are put into motion. Whether they are ultimately a good person or not is solely up to the player, but their beliefs are strong. For them, they are bothered more by the separate ways they and the Revolution ended up taking, having been very well aware of the potential things they could have accomplished in helping the world overcome the infection before it consumed too much.

The Law cares for society and the people remaining as well as order amongst that safety. They are more open eyed to the flaws of man rather than sticking to the idealistic view of humans being needing to be saved at all costs. In fact, a reason they are not also searching for a cure is because they have determined the problems of the world no longer can be blamed on the infection, but rather in how humanity has chosen to use it as an excuse and thus act on it.
ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS: THE REVOLUTION; BEST FRIENDS, SEE THE REVOLUTION'S NOTES...
THE IMMUNE; Also close with the sole caring parent of the immune, they too, feel responsible for the welfare of this teenager. Initially, they were responsible for taking care of them and bringing them to the military academy, but currently do not know their whereabouts. Despite the two being on good terms, the no-nonsense policy the military has concerning the infected made the Immune fear that they would be killed on sight without any hope for explanation if they returned to the academy. Therefore, they chose to seek out the Revolution, instead.
ANYTHING ELSE?: I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you, the Revolution, and the Immune, to develop some interesting shenanigans. This role actually has the most potential in terms of being able to be a deciding factor of the jaunt ( basically, depending on how you spin it, you can have them become a great asset to the group or a great hindrance: for example, having them find out about the Immune being infected and them making the decision whether to have to killed on sight by the military or reluctantly see where this 'seeking a cure thing' goes are two very different paths to walk down ). I'll basically work with you once you get some ideas to see how to best implement everything in here to make it work the best for you!

The one trait of this role that can't be forgotten is this; humankind is not the end all and be all. While they generally support the good of society, they do not stick to absolutes and have their times and reasons to decide when the good of many versus the good of a few isn't the decision that needs to be made. Humanity is a lost cause and a cure isn't going to change human ways; the virus didn't make people the way they are now ( looting, stealing, terrified of the outside, resorting to violent, unwilling to band together and would rather fight each other over 'power struggles' etc... ), it just allowed them to sink into the roles without guilt.

Also, they can't potentially die until later in the jaunt, so they shall be the most resourceful and careful in surviving \o/!


TRAVELER NAME: Armin
'ROLE': The Catalyst
INITIAL DESCRIPTION: --
NOTES/PURPOSE: Basically they're the best friend to the Immune and also a prodigy in terms of their efforts and abilities ( mostly... military type tactics, I guess, but anything else you can think of to further the Firefly goals ). Friendly, but passionate and unwilling to let their thoughts and concerns be left in the dark, they stand up for what they believe in and are dedicated to finding their way in life. While they have insisted they will make their own choices on who is 'right' and 'wrong' in terms of the way the military and the fireflies deal with one another, they are currently in favor of the fireflies. They did try to be a soldier, but never found themselves quite fitting in.

Currently, although the Revolution knows of the Immune's wherabouts, the Catalyst does not. They will be introduced as searching for their friend ( as their friend isn't supposed to let anyone know they are alive due to having to deal with the being infected thing ).
ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS: Basically the relationships listed above in the other roles, i'm sorry, i'm getting so tired of typing cries...
ANYTHING ELSE?: They are meant to be another friendly and passionate figure for the investigators but they are also to be faced with the ultimate dilemma: as a person who has finally found their way in the ranks of the fireflies and feels like they belong as well as has become passionate about the causes; are those things considered more important than their best friend, should it come to pass that they are considered a liability or a needed sacrifice?

They are meant to have the investigators become uncertain on which is the right decision to make, even when they are convinced initially that they once knew.



TRAVELER NAME: Souji Okita
'ROLE': THE DISENCHANTED
INITIAL DESCRIPTION: Escort's younger brother.
NOTES/PURPOSE: see other role relationships
ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS: see other role relationships
ANYTHING ELSE?: despite his connections with the others, they won't be able to cross paths with him until later in the jaunt ( as they don't even all know if he's still alive, just certain people like his brother and the firefly leader are rather convinced of his ability to take care of himself and survive even outside of a quarantine zone).


TRAVELER NAME: Glen Baskerville
'ROLE': THE VENGEFUL
INITIAL DESCRIPTION:
    once a partner of the above two these have since split from them when a particular job of theirs cost the life of this's person's last remaining family. Their whereabouts are currently unknown but they hold a grudge particularly against 'the unintentional escort' and have been biding their time to make them pay for the death they caused . (Whether this death was Valid, a misunderstanding, or something else entirely is up to the two players.)

NOTES/PURPOSE: this role is basically to make everyone's life hard. definitely someone that all sides should be concerned with.

SO THIS JAUNT...

Okay, so here's the deal. I'm running behind as you all have seen so please bear with me, as I've said before I promise not to rush you guys or to be unfair. As far as the event where the last part is 20 years later already and there's a thread for it, that was a mistake/error on my part in communicating with the other mod on where to end the next update! So, just ignore it for now until we settle things up and just play in the first two setting options before the 20 year jump.

That said, as infiltrators it's basically up to me to help you guys help the investigators through the jaunt and by that I want to educate you guys as much as I can about the things going on. I am going to link everyone the jaunt sheet file with all the info (on things like the goal of the jaunt, the conditions for things, etc, etc. )but that needs to be tweaked and I can't do that until I get home from work tomorrow, so I gotta ask you to just play with the infiltrator stuff for now ;O;

For non-plot important infiltrators, you are most welcome and encouraged to mingle and to still participate in helping make or break the jaunt for the other players once you guys get all the infos tomorrow too. But, of course it's your choice. C:

The only thing I ask it that you try not to spoil anyone else who is an investigator (who hasn't spoiled themselves by finding this link or something and reading, already).
